Sedation Dentistry by Active Dental

FAQ's

Q. Is Sedation Dentistry Safe?

A. Yes. Sedation Dentistry has been used by dentists globally with great success for many years.

Q. Do I need to be asleep for shorter treatments?

A. No. We have other forms of anaesthesia, such as Local Anaesthetic and Nitrous Oxide that are effective for the great majority of treatments. However, if your main concern is anxiety and fear then Sedation Dentistry could be the favoured option for you.

Q. Will I always need Sedation Dentistry when I visit?

A. The need to be sedated is often tied to the anxiety felt by a patient. If after the first few times you visit the dentist you use Sedation Dentistry your overall anxiety and fear of the dentist may be greatly reduced. This means that in future you may eliminate your fear and need to use Sedation Dentistry.

Q. Why am I feeling so anxious?

A. The great feeling of anxiety derives from some fear of future pain that may occur in the dentist chair. This normally comes from a negative experience in the past that now manifests itself into a form of post-traumatic stress that freezes a person when confronted by the dentist.
Other people feel uncomfortable when hands are placed in and around the mouth, which increases anxiety. By utilising Sedation Dentistry, the dentist can complete a treatment with the patient being asleep and feeling nothing.

Q. Is my sedation being monitored when I am asleep?

A. Yes. Throughout the procedure you are constantly monitored by one of our dedicated team.

Q. Do I need to bring a friend with me to the dentist if I choose to have Sedation?

A. Yes. You will need to have a special person with you for your visit. During your appointment our team with make sure your friend is well looked after with lots of great coffee and fresh fruit as well as a good selection of magazines and an ipod if they would like some music to listen to. When your appointment is finished they can then help you sort out any paperwork before you leave and drive you home safely!
